Choosing Between Our Waterproof & 100% Cotton Fabrics
To help you choose the right product for your needs, we’d like to explain the key differences between our Waterproof and 100% Cotton fabric options
Choosing Between Our Waterproof & 100% Cotton Fabrics:
To help you choose the right product for your needs, we'd like to explain the key differences between our Waterproof and 100% Cotton fabric options.
Both fabrics are designed to provide outstanding protection against Allergens, Dust Mites, Bed Bugs, Pet Dander, Scabies, and Bird Lice. The difference comes down to the additional features, feel, and intended use of each fabric type.
The Protection Is the Same
Both our Waterproof and 100% Cotton fabrics are highly effective barrier textiles.
For perspective the hardest pest to control are dust mites as they are so small:
- Dust mite allergens are approximately 5-20 microns
- A physical dust mite is approximately 200 microns
Our fabrics feature extremely fine pore sizes:
- Waterproof Fabric: less than 1 micron
- 100% Cotton Fabric: approximately 2.8 microns
This means both fabrics are exceptionally effective at blocking allergens and microscopic irritants while still remaining comfortable for everyday use.
Waterproof Fabric - Maximum Protection & Practicality

Our Waterproof range features a soft knitted jersey fabric bonded to a thin Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) membrane. This advanced lining provides protection against:
- Liquid spills
- Urine & incontinence
- Oils, dirt & grime
- Everyday wear and tear
Unlike traditional waterproof materials, our TPU membrane is designed to provide a softer, more flexible, and more breathable sleeping experience. The fabric remains quiet and comfortable during normal use while still delivering reliable waterproof protection.
As with all waterproof textiles, the protective membrane creates a slightly different feel compared to natural cotton fabrics, however most customers find the material soft, unobtrusive, and comfortable for everyday use. This premium textile technology is widely used in medical and healthcare environments where comfort, durability, hygiene, and protection are equally important.
Why Customers Choose Waterproof
Waterproof products are ideal for:
- Protecting expensive mattresses and pillow
- Commercial accommodation settings
- Families with children
- Incontinence care
- High-use environments
- Customers wanting an easy-care, all-in-one solution
In fact, the majority of our wholesale customers including hotels. hospitals, schools, hostels, and accommodation providers choose waterproof options because they provide both hygiene protection and stain protection in one product. These are the most cost effective solution
When paired with a standard slip-on mattress protector or pillowcase, most customers find the waterproof fabric feels soft, comfortable, and unnoticeable during sleep.
100% Cotton-Natural Feel & Premium Comfort

Our 100% Cotton range is designed for customers who prefer a completely natural fibre sleeping surface.
We use a premium fine Turkish cotton yarn with OEKO-TEX® certification, meaning the fabric has been independently tested for harmful substances and chemicals.
Unlike many cotton fabrics on the market, our cotton is not heavily processed through chemical mercerisation treatments commonly used to whiten and dye cotton. Because of this:

- Mercerizer Machine-Chemical Bath
- The fabric remains a natural off-white colour
- The cotton retains its original feel and structure
- The pore size stays extremely fine for effective protection
Why Customers Choose Cotton
Our cotton range is popular with customers who:
- Prefer natural fibres
- Have sensitivities to polyester-based fabrics
- Prioritise softness and traditional cotton comfort
- Want the most breathable option available
- Prefer OEKO-TEX® certified textiles
While cotton is not waterproof and will not protect against liquid spills or stains, it remains extremely effective for allergen and pest protection.
Many customers consider our cotton range the premium comfort option for residential use.
Mattress Encasements
Best suited for:
- Residential bedrooms
- Customers wanting natural fibre comfort
- Allergy-sensitive sleepers
- Situations where waterproofing is unnecessary
We recommend using a removable mattress protector over the encasement for day-to-day protection and easier weekly washing.
Waterproof Mattress Encasements
Best suited for:
- Protecting mattresses from spills and staining
- Commercial environments
- Children's beds
- Guest accommodation
- Customers wanting maximum mattress protection
The waterproof fabric also has greater stretch and flexibility, making it more accommodating for varying mattress depths.
Pillow Encasements
Both options provide the same allergen and pest protection.
Waterproof Pillow Covers
Ideal for protecting pillows against:
- Saliva
- Sweat
- Oils
- Everyday staining
They remain soft, quiet, and comfortable while offering additional practical protection.
Cotton Pillow Covers
Ideal for customers who:
- Prefer the feel of natural cotton
- Do not require waterproofing
- Prioritise softness and breathability
Both options receive excellent customer feedback for comfort and sleep quality.
Quilt Encasements
When choosing a quilt encasement, warmth and breathability become more important considerations.
Cotton Quilt Encasements
Generally the preferred option for everyday comfort due to:
- Better airflow
- Greater breathability
- Lower heat retention
Waterproof Quilt Encasements
Best suited where waterproof protection is specifically required.
Because waterproof fabrics naturally reduce airflow more than cotton, they may increase warmth slightly more during sleep. Many customers successfully use waterproof quilt encasements year-round by pairing them with a lighter GSM quilt during warmer months.
Which One Should You Choose?
There's no "better" option it simply depends on what matters most to you.
Choose 100% Cotton if you prioritise:
- Natural fibres
- Premium comfort
- Breathability
- OEKO-TEX® certified textiles
Choose Waterproof if you prioritise:
- Spill & stain protection
- Easy care
- Mattress preservation
- Practical everyday durability
Many customers even choose a combination of both depending on the room, bedding item, or family.
